Jenna stirred her cereal as she watched her son waffle in his seat at the question that was asked of him. She took a bite, savoring the honey taste. Judging from the blush on Jake's face, she thought she could piece together what it was.
"Uh-oh, does Jakey have a date?" she asked teasingly. Instantly, Jake's face flushed with embarrassment and his sisters burst into laughter. Jenna spooned up some more cereal as the grilling began.
"Oh my god, who is she?!" Brianna asked.
"Shut up." Jake replied.
"Is she pretty?!" Emily chirped.
"Stop!" Jake yelped.
Tim laughed. "Well you're going to have to introduce us sometime you know."
"Ugh!!" Jake wolfed down his breakfast as fast as he could and ran from the table to avoid further torture, leaving his family behind to laugh and speculate. Jenna finished up the rest of her own breakfast and walked to the sink to wash her bowl out. As she did she winced, feeling something caught in the back of her throat and began coughing harshly.
"You okay honey?" Tim called from the table as Jenna poured a glass of water and gulped it down. The coughing resumed.
"Yeah," she replied, "something just went down the wrong pipe I guess." With that the family got up from the table and began to head out and get the day started.
