After a few minutes of fumbling, it seems no matter how hard you try, neither one will attach to you... somewhat distressed by this you've completely forgotten that you can still feel yours in your hand, and therefore, logically, your roommate should be able to feel his as well.

However, it seems that it's not until he bursts through the door, after making the same discovery about his lack of equipment that you did earlier, that you realize that fact.
