Being already 18 and soon to leave high school made you spend more time with your friends, friends that maybe you wouldn't be seeing again once everyone went separate ways in college. It wasn't exactly what you were expecting too, but it also made you acquiesce to peer pressure when instead of the typical nice plan of playing baseball and going to the movies you ended up spending the whole day with them, in what was a sort of improvised party complete with tasting beer for the first time and straying away from being your typical responsible self.
It wasn't like those crazy parties seen on movies sure, but there was enough action to ignore your mother's calls and discover what being drunk entailed. Waking up with a headache in your friends' couch the day after, you knew you were in trouble, but you also knew it was worth it. Surprisingly when you came back the one that gave you trouble wasn't your mom who simply hugged you, gave you something for the hangover and told you how "we'll talk about this later" but your little sister.
"Where were you the whole day? You told me we were going to play together after you saw your friends!" She pouted, loud enough to make your headache a bit more intense. She wasn't usually this insensitive but for some reason she was pissed.
"Sorry sis, one thing lead to another and now I need to rest" you gave her a weak smile but she wasn't having it.
"Sorry is not enough!"
"Come on, let me sleep and we can play later.. maybe"
"Maybe? That's not enough" she insisted, and at that point it was annoying you a bit. She wasn't usually this bratty.
"What do you want then? I was busy" you said a bit more sternly
"You're almost always busy now"
"That's not true"
"It is, and then you will leave! It's not fair" she said but noticing the change in your tone and the way you just turned your back on her to try and sleep she left the room, leaving you to reflect on her words before finally resting. You wondered if the reason she was mad was because you would be going to college soon, and maybe that was the reason your mother wasn't mad too. You tried to remember to talk with her after recovering from the hangover, as much as you loved her, you really wanted to be on your own, discover what you wanted to do and become a man in college, away from home.
