This choice: Head to the lodge. Mingle and get the bearings (and maybe more) for now. • Go Back...Chapter #4Head to the lodge. Mingle and get the bearings ... by: Apollo With the unpacking over, Yuki returned to the den, hoping to find her friends all ready for some mountain fun. She didn't have a plan yet, she intended to play it by ear, so establishing what her friends wanted for the day seemed like the best idea.
In the middle of the spacious den was Miki, who was lowered halfway to the couch cushion. Miki straightened back up, hoping the arrival of Yuki meant the other two would be soon to follow. It wouldn't be instant, but probably just a minute or two. By drawing straws, Miki and Yuki were saddled with the two bedrooms downstairs, while the others got the upstairs rooms. It's only natural that the two Japanese girls would be done unpacking first. The two settled in and kept themselves occupied with the snow falling diagonally outside the window after deciding to wait for everyone to join them.
"Seriously?" Miki asked the staircase. For all the time that had passed since Yuki's arrival, not one girl could even be heard approaching.
"They go to sleep?" Yuki said.
While Miki was content to wait for them longer, Yuki crossed to the stairs to investigate. She had no real plan for the day, but someone else could have one. She didn't want to ruin the day if someone was scheming, but also didn't want to waste time if there was no direction today. Miki soon joined her, deciding she may as well tag along and see for herself. It might even help to have a second, she reasoned.
The first bedroom door was ajar, already announcing the occupant and her delay before the action music caught their ears. The pair entered only to confirm their suspicions, which included the idea that any knocks would go unanswered. Unsurprisingly, the walk in led their shins directly into a suitcase, still latched and dealing a heavy blow to the petite Asians' careless legs. A backpack next to the bed, however, was wide open, and had a pile of tangled cables lying on the floor next to it. One cable had been freed from the mass and was plugged into the outlet behind the side table, and led directly to the portable console atop the made bed. Handling it was Lily, who probably didn't hear her suitcase get knocked or the soft cursing of her friends.
Lily's total focus on those games usually led her friends to make outrageous comments that would give everyone else whiplash, but today wasn't one of those days. As much fun as it would be to see if they could break Lily, they'd rather have some real fun. They'll play this game tomorrow, not today, and make sure to win. It was a fairly rough car ride, so an easy day was to be expected anyway.
The second door was closed at least, but no sound could be heard. Were this Lily's room, it would mean she had her headphones plugged into the console, but this is Jessica's room. She should be pacing back and forth to unload her clothes. They looked inside, and got a serious case of déjà vu. The suitcase was knocked by their shins again, was also heavy enough to leave a bruise, and the room's occupant was atop the bed. This time, however, there was no open backpack or pile of cables, Jessica was tucked in for a nap, and was jarred to attention by the suitcase's travels.
Miki asked, "Really, Jess?"
"Gimme a break!" she answered. "I got up at three!"
"So did we," Yuki said.
"You got to sleep in the car. I had to drive."
The duo shared a submissive look and shrugged their shoulders.
"So you're in for the day?" Yuki asked.
"I'll try to be up for dinner."
Yuki and Miki returned to the den, immersed in a conversation that was long overdue.
"I was gonna head up the mountain," Miki said. "Get my bearings and make sure I know my way to that hot spring. You in?"
Yuki shook her head. "Someone's gotta find the good restaurants. If your lookin at the resort, I'm better off hittin the lodge."
"That's actually a pretty good idea. Divide and conquer!"
While donning their heavy coats, Yuki began to ponder exactly what she would do today. Yes, ask around, but what else? And where? With the snowfall she saw earlier, it's likely not too many people would be on the slopes. Anyone not in a cabin or hotel room was definitely in the lodge. Some would congregate to the lobby for socializing and hot beverages, while others would make their way to the game room for some entertainment. Either one would be a good spot for someone exploring on her own. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
