You cracked open a fresh energy drink as your contact headed into position. Two days ago you had accepted a job looking into some missing people and traced most of the disappearances to a shady part of some backwater city know for its high crime rates and police corruption. A perfect place for some sicko to kidnap victims and take them back to their lair to do god knows what... hopefully that was coming to a close now that a skilled merc was involved with the case.
"You got everything?" you ask over a hidden speaker your contact Chris had hidden in his ear. After a brief hiss of static a familiar voice came over the two way communicator. "Yeah, I got my gun and taser and I've been tryin' to keep a low profile. I'm definitely starting to get a good picture of our culprit though. Most of the missing persons came into contact with a middle aged drifter type in a suit. I've been keeping an eye out, I'll let you know when anything turns up."
You took a quick sip out of your drink and open up a video feed from a secret camera Chris had in his hat and took a look around at the busy city streets. "Alright, man." you reply as you take note of a nearby street address. "You're heading into some dangerous territory, be careful." Chris laughed and replied that he would before cutting off the mic and heading into a nearby bar. You quickly opened a new feed of the interior and looked around at the patrons.
Most of the drunks and bums looked shady, but none fit the profile of the suspect. "I don't think the guy we're looking for is here, boss. I'm going to head out and try some of the other places nearby." Chris reported as he walked back out the front door. For the next hour you both had little luck as most of the people he encountered were too drunk, horny or stupid to be the suave mystery man.
Just when Chris was about to call it quits for the night he noticed a man in a trenchcoat and fedora walking down the opposite side of the street. It was hard to see his face but he looked like a dead ringer for the description provided by most of your contacts. "Boss, do you see-" "I do." you cut him off as you try to get a zoom in on his face from a nearby street camera. "Follow him, see if you can get some kind of ID on him, a license plate or credit card number, anything like that and we'll have a good lead."
Chris nodded as he followed the guy around the block to a library and down a narrow alleyway leading to a small parking lot where another man was waiting for him. Chris could get closer, but it would be very risky so he took cover behind a nearby dumpster as the men began talking. Unfortunately, there were no cameras in the immediate area and it was hard to hear anything either of them said. "What's the call boss? They won't be here long and we need to make a move." Chris warned as he peeked around the corner.
