Jasmine sifted through the mail at a desk in her home. She flipped through spam and a few bills only to discover a strange letter, different than all the others, and different than any she had ever received before this. She brushed her long black hair behind her shoulders as she slowly and carefully opened the gilded envelope. She slid out the paper inside, which felt like some quality card stock, and unfolded it to read what it said.
"Congrats Jasmine,
You've been selected to join in our research project at the local university..."
Jasmine kept reading about whatever project it was and how they had selected her. It seemed on the up and up. And living in the same town, she knew this university was a real place, and doing a quick search showed that the point of contact listed in the letter was a real person who worked there. She double checked the letter and saw that they were offering ten thousand dollars for people who stay with the project all the way through.
