The sound of gravel crunching beneath the rubber soles of her trainers warmed Ashely's ear canals, fueling many fond memories of jogging past. She had gone far and wide in this morning's outdoor exertions; to and from her cabin, plus doubling her normal schedule and circling the courtyard a good twenty times before heading to the mountain trail that led off of school grounds. For the past two hours now she'd been working off last night's little slip in the form of fervent running, forgoing the tunes of modern pop rock in favor of the much more soothing sounds of nature...
However it seemed that for the first half of her regimen, no such natural sounds were to be heard over the whirring of golf-carts and inane chattering of her fellow teachers. Even as early as five in the morning, Ashley had been forced to tolerate the prattering of those fat slobs as they gabbed on and on about what was going on in their irrelevant little overweight existences. Dressed in bath robes not wide enough to contain their burgeoning stomachs or stuffed into ill-fitting sweatpants, even not dressing in proper clothing seemed to do would grate on the fitness-freak's nerves, causing her pace to pick up as she banished them from earshot.
Of course, then a pair of them would putter along on one of the poor overloaded golf carts, bending beneath their combined girth as the larger one struggled to steer with one hand as she stuffed a donut into her mouth with the other. Just Ashley's luck.
What had been a really stressful run seemed to melt away at the almost comforting sight of her own front door; what seemed to be designed in coaxing her towards overindulgence had been mentally converted into a sanction for fitness. A place where she could not be disgusted by the daily battles of too-tight clothing on her too-fed coworkers. Where if she didn't like the sight of one of her fatass students enjoying a walk and a candy bar, she didn't have to chew her out but simply shut the blinds.
Yes, this place... Ashley was actually beginning to feel at home in this place, she could only think as a wave of ease soothed her tensed muscular shoulders. She grabbed the doorknob, twisted the bronze handle, and popped inside- dreading yet another day working at Buttercombe Academy. She would head into the bathroom, strip down for a shower, pick out an outfit for her Economics classes of the day, pack a set of gym clothes, and grab a bagel before heading out.
It seemed, however, that her schedule would be thrown somewhat off this morning.
"Courtney, what are you still doing here?!" Ashley hissed as she caught sight of an all-too familiar bubble butt squashing one of their dining room chairs far past the usual hour, "Aren't you like, I don't know, behind schedule or something? Come on, I've gotta get ready!"
"I've already taken a shower, Ms. Knight." she answered calmly with a bite of donut and a sip of coffee, "Go on and get ready, I'll be out of your hair in a minute."
"Goddammit Courtney, call me Ashley; it's not that hard!" she huffed, getting distracted from her creedly morning routine, "And where did you get these donuts? I thought we agreed that we wouldn't have anything fried or cream filled in the house?!"
Taking her precious time to chew and swallow, Ms. Farron put her cup down and answered in a way that suggested that she was still very much half asleep, "Look, the school started this new delivery program and--
"I thought the school already had a delivery program?" Ashley huffed, hands now on her hips in mild confusion but utter disapproval, "Look, I'm gonna be late. Where are my bagels?"
"--see, that's why its new." Ms. Farron said with a roll of her eyes, "Look, I told them you wanted bagles but they said they were out; but look, they gave us an extra box of donuts as an apology." she gestured to the still-folded box of pastries on the counter as she took another bite of her own, "And besides, it's jelly filled, not cream filled."
"UUGH!" Ashely groaned, visibly distraught, "I freakin' hate this place!" she whined as she stormed towards the already served box on the counter, taking note of the two already missing from the dozen "Look, they don't even have just basic freakin' donuts! It's all frosted an crap!"
"If you don't like them, then--
"I don't." she hissed back, "You already forced me to eat all that crap last night, I'm not gonna stuff my face with fried dough too."
"--....if you say so." Courtney shrugged as she polished off the last bite, wiping off the dollops of jelly from the corner of her mouth, "But Ms.Flatterly said they'd be out for a while. Something about the cost or something, I don't know. But it's either donuts or nothing."
Ashley gulped, knowing full well that missing breakfast wasn't a very viable option for someone so set into her routine as she was. It was the most important meal of the day for a reason, kickstarting her metabolism and helping provide all the energy she would need for the day in order to keep her tight, slender bod.
"And for the record, I didn't make you eat anything last night." Ms. Farron said as she wiped off her fingers and rose to her feet, "I gotta get going, Ms. Polluck's got me working on-- oh, what do you care?"
Ashley looked at the donuts, then her watch. Five minutes late. What was a fitness nut to do?
