'Oh, didn't you know - I'm going to be a chef!' Mel exclaimed. 'Buttercombe has one of the best culinary programs in the whole nation. I didn't even know if I was gonna get in - if I hadn't, I'd be going to some athletic school.'
Alice blinked sleepily. 'A-athletic school? Do you play sports?'
'Yea, I used to run track - I was pretty good, too - but they don't even have a team here!' Mel complained. 'It's weird - they have theatre, book clubs, even a chess team - but no athletics. Even gym class is optional! I mean, isn't that kind of important?'
Alice blushed as she nodded. 'Y-yea, I guess it is.' In truth, she'd rejoiced upon learning she could opt-out of her all-time least favorite class - the only one she'd ever gotten a B in!
'Which is a problem, because I've taken my track runner's appetite here with me,' Mel mused, stroking her stuffed stomach. 'I've always been a big eater, but man, this place just does something to ya. Especially when you hang around with Ronny too much!
'H-Hm?' Alice perked up, the strange revelation drawing her thoughts away from her aching tummy.
'Yea. I know I've complained to you about my roommate before. Well, I've been trying to stay away from the room as much as possible, and Ronny's been really cool about it. She just lets me hang around in there, and her roommate is nice too.' She loosed another hiccup. 'But man, the way she feeds me, you'd think she doesn't want me to be able to get up from the couch!'
Alice's eyes widened. 'W-why do you think she does it?'
'Oh, stop, she's just trying to be nice. She's a great cook, too, I'm surprised she isn't in culinary. She's just a bit insistent on my enjoyment!' Mel chuckled. 'Yesterday, she got me to eat a whole pie for dessert! I couldn't think straight for hours!'
Alice gulped. The mere thought of more food made her stuffed belly gurble sickly. 'So... how do you keep in shape?'
'So far, I've been relying on my metabolism. But I plan on running some once the semester gets into full swing.' Mel checked her phone. 'Jeez, it's getting late. I should probably get moving.'
'I dunno if I can,' Alice mumbled to Mels immense mirth.
'Alice, you kill me. I gotta go clean the dorm, but we should meet up later tonight, alright? Seeya!'
'...right. Bye.' Alice sighed as she watched her energetic friend leave. She hadn't been kidding - she felt as if the slightest jostle might just make her pop, or at least lose her lunch! She picked at the too-tight buttons of her blouse discontentedly. She had to get herself under control!
