The History of the World

    by: Yote Author IconMail Icon
29-3BCE (Before Circean Era)
Harald, the inbred King of Tryzantium, descends into madness and paranoia. Many lords take the opportunity to stake their independence from the tyrannical ruler, and the once mighty Kingdom of Tryzantium fragments. By 3BCE, it is a shadow of its former glory.

13 BCE
Prince Ivar of Tryzantine is born to King Harald the Mad.

3BCE
Janus Meade is born.'

0CE (Circean Era)'
Circe Sunstorm, already a living Saint of the church, dies in defence of the Grey Gate against the Elemental Chaos. She holds the Gate for three days until reinforcements arrive, fighting not only with the blessings of the Goddess but also the powers of a sorcerer, which she has concealed and suppressed all her life.
With the arrival of the human armies, she uses the last of her energy to transfigure the warriors into powerful bestial forms, allowing them to win the war against the Elemental Chaos.'
Circe is regarded as a martyr and a new era, The Circean Era, is begun in her honour.'

1CE
The veterans of the War of the Grey Gate return home. Though expecting to be welcomed as heroes, many face prejudice or enslavement for their transfigured forms.'
In light of the heroism of Saint Circe, the church ceases its persecution of female magic practitioners. Concerned that the church is on the verge of welcoming wizards into its ranks, vastly bolstering its power, the Magi open the colleges to female wizards for the first time.'

2CE
King Harald the Mad launches his war of reconquest against his lost lands. He suffers a series of humiliating defeats before being captured and beheaded. Ivar is crowned and continues his father's campaign, quickly proving himself a capable but ruthless leader. He offers special dispensation to all non-humans that fight with him. Many of the Grey Gate veterans flock to his side.

3CE
Orc warlocks attempting to emulate human wizardry accidentally unleash a portal storm across their lands, through which the infinite hordes of hell begin to invade.'

4CE
A beautiful, mysterious woman by the name Cl'ona arrives in Ivar's court. Though she offers no proof of a noble lineage, her beautify, manners, and charisma entrance the young King. They are soon wed, and their union is a loving, passionate one.

6CE
After many years of fighting, the Tryzantine Reconquest ends with Tryzantium having taken back most of its lost lands. All combatants are granted full rights as citizens, much to the dismay of many lords. Ivar continues to fight minor uprisings from angry vassals for the rest of his reign.'

9CE
The Orcs continue to fight their hopeless battle against the infinite hordes of hell. The idea that they might be losing finally penetrates their thick, collective skull and they flee (or at least fight backwards) into the Kingdom of Horr. The peaceful Horrians are outmatched and, in a last hope, activate the Sceptre of Horr, blasting apart their lands and transforming the male population into half-demon succubi that fight off the Orcs. The women of Horr are cast out, and form the Horrian Remnant in Tryzantium lands.
With the need to house the refugees, attempts are made to reclaim many of the old settlements taken by the wilderness, with promises of financial and military aid for the settlers. This reclamation project is swiftly forgotten, leaving the remote settlements to fend for themselves.'

11CE
Janus enlisted into the Study of magic. The Philosphers' Stones are stolen by goblins in his first year, and the Tryzantine economy crashes shortly after as vast quantities of counterfeit gold begins to pour in.'

12CE
An obsidian meteorite impacts in Hashian lands, throwing a cloud of activated obsidian into the air, inducing the Great Shift. The strict caste system crumbles as the Hashians are bodyswitched at random.

14CE
Despite many years of marriage, Queen Cliona has yet to bear the King a child. Upon inspection by a physician, the reason becomes apparent - Cliona is in fact an elf, and a male one at that, his true gender hidden by glamour. Ten years prior, he had been ordered to infiltrate Ivar's court and assassinate him before he could unite the humans, though fell madly in love with his intended target.
Ivar kills the physician, the physician's assistant, and Cliona. The dead Queen is stricken from all records, and the merest mention of her in the presence of the King is a death sentence. Ivar sinks into a deep depression that lasts many years, and his attitude towards non-human races sours considerably.

18CE
Janus graduates to journeyman wizard.'

27CE
Janus leaves the service of the magi to start a new life as an adventurer, becoming a deserter and fugitive in the process. Though he has many heroic deeds, he also develops an extensive criminal record and is eventually thrown in jail to be hung.

47CE
A group of infamous adventurers including Janus are recruited to steal back the philosophers' stones, on the promise that their criminal past be wiped clean should they succeed. Against all odds, they do and Janus is pardoned for desertion. He becomes an independent wizard, court advisor to the King on all things arcane, and a shrewd businessman.
