Chapter #26

Arrival on Contraxia

    by: a Author IconMail Icon
Gamora was woken up again by a knock at the door. Quill entered once more.

"Hey, we're here. You said you wanted to come with us, right?" he asked.

"Mmm, yeah," she said, nodding. "I've been cooped up on this ship for too long."

Gamora slowly threw the blankets to the other side of the bed. Peter's eyes bulged when he saw that her belly had gotten bigger overnight.

"You...you look bigger than you did a few hours ago..."

"There's a reason for that. I'll tell you why once we get back on the ship..." Gamora grunted, trying to get up.

Peter noticed her struggling and helped her up, using more strength than he had anticipated. Once Gamora was upright, Quill rubbed her belly, and their quickly growing children kicked and moved in response.

"Oof!" Gamora grunted as she felt a particularly strong kick. "I think they like you. More than they like me."

"Oh, come on. Don't be so hard on yourself," Peter smiled, leading her out of her bedroom.

"I've got this for you. It's cold out there, so I thought you'd need it," he offered, handing her a large fur coat.

Gamora grabbed it and put it on. Somehow, it was able to cover her massive stomach. "Thanks, Peter!" she said, giving him a peck on the cheek.

The Guardians were greeted by a wave of cold wind and snow as they stepped off the ship and onto the surface of the neon-coated outpost on Contraxia.

"Okay, our contact should be meeting us in ten minutes. Gamora, Mantis, would you two keep Groot occupied? He's been a little rambunctious today," Rocket said.

Rocket, Drax, and Quill lead the prisoner to the middle of the outpost, leaving Gamora and Mantis at the foot of the ship alone with Groot.

Mantis looked at Gamora and smiled. "You can go and relax, Gamora. I can take care of him."

"Really? I appreciate it!" Gamora replied, finding herself trying not to cry.

Gamora went her own way, exploring the outpost, while Mantis chased after Groot.

Minutes later, Gamora found herself on an empty balcony outside of a building overlooking the center of the station. She slowly waddled to the railing, hands on her back, and watched as the guys negotiated with their contact. It seemed to be going well.

"Gamora?" a voice called out. It was familiar.

She turned, and saw just about the last person she was expecting to find here.

"Nebula?"

"What are you doing here?" Nebula asked, approaching her.

"We...we're doing a job. Why are you here?" Gamora wondered.

Nebula sighed. "I'm supposed to meet someone. I'm hoping they can help us find our loving father."

They looked at the outpost in silence for a few moments. "I'm going to kill him, Gamora. I had...a dream. At last I think it was. He's going to destroy everything," Nebula said.

Gamora nodded. "I saw the same thing. Just be careful, okay? You know, it's rare that we run into each other without fighting until we're both almost dead."

"Yeah. It's...pretty nice...I guess. I should go. The longer I wait here, the more time Thanos has to prepare," Nebula said, turning away.

"Wait!" Gamora said as she grabbed her sister's arm.

"What?" she asked, an eye going wide.

Gamora took a deep breath. "I have something to show you."

She opened her coat, exposing her enormous belly to the cold.

Nebula's jaw dropped. "Gamora are you--you're pregnant?!?"

Gamora nodded. Nebula approached her sister and placed a hand on the rounded surface. She gasped when she felt kick and squirms push against her palm.

"Wait. Are they Quill's?"

Gamora sighed. "Uh...yeah. They are."

Nebula got up. "Well, at least they'll have you as their mother."

The sister's hugged, and Gamora wished Nebula luck on her journey. Gamora headed to the ship, where the rest of the Guardians were waiting.

Peter wrapped his arm around her as they went inside of the Benatar. He noticed that she seemed somewhat sad.

"You alright?" he asked.

"Yeah. Just thinking about some loved ones."
