Exploring one of Sunnydale's dozen-something cemeteries usually involved finding a vampire--at least one vampire--in every one. Buffy had done a quick five-minute sweep of this one and had found nothing. She didn't hear anything unusual or see any signs of violence. Satisfied, she headed for the exit, ready for home, bed . . . and probably homework that she had forgotten about until just now.
Actually, this patrol had been unusually unproductive. She dusted a few vampires earlier but things had been so quiet afterwards that Willow and Xander had gone home and she spent the rest of the evening relaxing, strolling from crypt to crypt and finding nothing.
As she left movement caught her eye towards some graves away from the exit. It was a round, dark shape, somewhat humanoid, but awkwardly lumbering over something on the ground. Disgusting gulping sounds came from the shape. It didn't look like a vampire, but Buffy still readied her stake and walked towards it.
"Finally," she said, "I'd hate for this night to be a total bust."
The creature heard as she approached, and stood tall on its two flabby legs. At first, Buffy thought it was fat, but when it lumbered towards her the thing was more of a giant, walking water balloon, filled with some kind of gelatinous slime that gurgled around as it walked. Its hands were like big useless paws. It's head more of a large bump coming off of its smooth shoulders, with a round mouth with a few dozen tiny sharp teeth, and two black, beady eyes.
It pointed a pudgy finger at Buffy as it spoke in what she assumed was anger.
"Glurb glooog gozareth!" it said, or some approximate of that in a slow, deep voice. Spittle of blue slime flew from its mouth at it spoke, flying far enough to spatter Buffy.
"Sorry, I don't speak ugly blob, but maybe if you slow down and speak louder I'll understand what you're saying." With one fluid movement she had her stake away and was leaping off a tombstone, kicking the demon in its chest before it could react. It was too soft, though. It reeled backwards, rolling its arms to keep balance, but Buffy was hurled to the ground rather than being able to launch herself back to a standing position like she normally would.
"A-goorga!" the thing said, apparently even angrier.
"Yeah, agoorga's right," Buffy leaped to her feet.
The thing bellowed, slime flying from its mouth. Buffy grimaced as it hit her again.
"Um, gross. You might--"
"Slorsh!" it yelled, opening its mouth wide and spraying a bucketful of the slime all over Buffy. She blocked some with her arms, and dodged backwards to avoid most of it. Her good fighting jeans might be ruined after that, she thought.
"Hey! What'd I ever--" she started, turning back to the creature. It was already on her, the slime nothing but a distraction. She threw up an elbow to hit it in the face and it bit her arm, creating tiny puncture wounds that didn't really hurt that much. Although, it ruined her sweater. That was an entire ensemble ruined by this thing.
The elbow thrust did connect, though, with the creature's head flying backwards, taking its body with it.
"Shlubba guga!" it said, awkwardly trying to remain standing.
"Ouch! Watch what you do with those things," Buffy said, kneeing the demon in its giant, blobby gut as it fell backwards. She stepped off of it and came down hard on its head. It apparently had no bones, since Buffy squished it flat, disgusting blue slime exploded out all over her boots.
She looked down as the demon stopped moving, what with its head smashed.
"And there go the boots," she said. The creature's body quivered and began shrinking, the slime that filled it evaporating, or vanishing. Within seconds all that was left was skin as Buffy stood over the body, holding her tiny arm wounds.
"Not sure how something like that survived in the wild," she said, preparing to leave. This body was clearly going to take care of itself and wouldn't need disposal.
As Buffy walked out of the cemetery she felt queasy and blamed the bite, wondering if it was venomous. Her stomach was groaning, feeling sick and full. It came on her so suddenly that she had to stop and steady herself on the cemetery gate. She hunched over, he arm wrapped around her stomach. She moaned as pain and pressure grew inside her.
