Marina decided she wanted to help out Ari, so she would feel like she was doing some good. Fighting soldiers who were often under threat of Dreze as well didn’t sit well with her. A rescue mission would help to inspire her to take down Dreze, and she would likely need help to do that and what better people than the ones he had wrongly imprisoned.
There were three prisons controlled by the dread wizard, and she would need to decide which one to attack first. Perhaps if the prison breaks inspired enough people a revolt could form, and picking the right one was critical for that. She wanted to go straight for Ari’s family but she wasn’t sure that was the best idea as it wouldn’t take long for the wizards working for Dreze to figure out that the portal wasn’t working, and they would know that Ari had been defeated, so they may suspect that Marina was going to be coming for her friend’s family.
Bleak Towers was likely the location the family was imprisoned with other political prisoners who spoke out against Dreze or those the wizard used to blackmail others to do his bidding. Most of the people were not threats in combat, but their words or actions had drawn the anger of the ruler of the lands. They were usually imprisoned there until their final fate was decided, usually when Dreze wanted to make an example of someone or because their usefulness had come to an end. It was in a remote region at the top of a mountain with numerous towers guarding the path, but she could likely get in easily in the form of a flying creature. The prisoners might not be able to fight but they could certainly spread the word and inspire others to fight back against the dread wizard.
The Asylum was probably the most well protected of the prisons as it held enemy spellcasters and warriors. They would be the best to have in a fight, but the defenses were fearsome and there was a garrison nearby and anti-magic fields around the building. She would need to get help to take the place and free the people from the control of Dreze. No one had ever escaped from the place, so she had no idea what to expect on the inside in the way of defenses, and that scared her.
Pleasure Palace was the last prison, and in many ways, it was the worst of them all. The prisoners were transformed into sex slaves to serve the pleasures of the elites of the land. She would need a lot of countermagic if she went there. Marina wished there was some sort of spell to heal the mental suffering that had occurred while the people were enslaved. As there were elites from the kingdom at the place meant there would likely to be bodyguards as well as the usual guards, but not as many as at the other locations.
Once she had decided she would make the proper preparations, so her plan would have a good chance of success. Marina was frightened at the prospect of failure when she felt so many people were depending on her success. The armies of King Emeril would have a much better chance of success if she could divide the attention of Dreze, so he would have to split his armies, and it might draw the man out of his fortified palace so she could take a good strike against the man. She said a silent prayer for her success and made her decision.
