Beakers bubbled and steam with various colored liquids flowing from one container to another even without the archmage being here. She looked over the equipment hoping that something would jump out at her and give her a clue as to where her friend had gone. She had some rudimentary training in potion making but this was far more advanced stuff that she was looking which wasn’t surprising considering he had centuries of experience. However, it was still possible for her to get some information from it.
Melis often wondered why the Archmage had come to work for the King because Arimas had always struck her as a much more gentle soul uninterested in the crafting of a kingdom. His main focus seemed to be discovering the mysteries of the world of magic. As she eyed the equipment it looked like there was a gap in what was going on with the process. It was stuck in a continuous loop. Perhaps if she could test some of the items in the process she would be able to figure out what he had left to look for. There did appear to be some notes that were left out that she could look at and get some information from. Thankfully, they didn’t look to be written in one of the many languages he knew that she didn’t but the handwriting was almost as bad as it being in another language.
It might be dangerous to mess with these unknown chemicals because any mistake could have some very serious consequences so she might want to try something else like checking with the church. The oracle wasn’t far from the capital so it wouldn’t be hard to get to it but it wasn’t always the best idea to use it. There was often a price to pay for the wisdom of the gods and it often wasn’t worth what you got in return.
She knew that he often took retreats to a secluded spot in the Vale of Dragon that she could check out. There was rumored to be a dragon who lived there who tolerated the wizard but things might have changed since she last been there. Melis had never met the dragon and every time she had brought up the subject of the creature Arimas had quickly changed the subject. She had always wanted to meet a dragon because the creature fascinated her but she knew they were very dangerous.
