The spellcaster decided she would try to take command of the animals because ruining the supply train would slow up the progress of the army or even halt it. It was hard to not be noticed when you were flying through the air on a carpet. She made a dive into the woods and prayed that none of the soldiers or scouts had noticed her maneuver. Stealth was not her best ability she thought as she stumbled over a log and fell head first into some mud. Marina, the great and powerful magic user, hated being so clumsy in the woods. She was so used to being an animal in the woods that being in human shape felt awkward and weird.
She had never been graceful as a child but she had been able to become graceful. Transforming into a deer was wonderful as she danced through the trees or becoming a falcon, soaring through the sky as a master of the air. Magic was easy for her from an early age and it provided great comfort to her. When had it become a weapon instead of a wonderment? She reminded herself that she was going to save a lot of lives with what she was doing.
Reaching out from the edge of the woods she could feel the minds of the simple animals pulling the wagons. Taking command of a beast of burden was easy but she was trying to control an entire wagon train strained her mind. She poured magic into them to increase their strength so they would be able to break free of their harnesses. Marina felt herself reaching her limit so she commanded the animals to break loose and run free before releasing control.
Her head ached as she heard the animals breaking free to the cries of frustration from the wagon drivers. She had done good work this day but she now needed to escape.
