Sitha moved through the small town market looking for some dry meat to purchase but he started to feel uneasy as he saw many of the villagers looking at him with fear and hate. His kind was not often seen this far north so was it just a fear of the unknown or had they some prejudice from the war with the kingdom over two centuries ago. War could build a lasting hate with many people as he knew of many lizard people still bore grudges against humans from ancestors who were killed by humans.
He decided avoiding the hostility was the best so he quickly grabbed some salted meat and dropped more than enough coins to pain for it and started to head away from the market to continue his journey. Sitha winced as a staff slammed hard into his side causing him to spin around to see the danger he was facing. A group of at least ten villagers had gathered as a mob and the numbers were starting to swell.
The weapons they carried were mostly tools and farm implements but they could still be dangerous in enough numbers though he would take a lot of them with him especially considering none of them had any armor on them. Anger was making his bloodthirsty at being attacked when he had done nothing wrong.
“I think I need a new lizard skin for the wall,” a portly man holding a hammer took a menacing step towards Sitha.
“As long as I get to keep the skull,” an unseen person in the crowd called out.
Sitha kept backing towards the exit of the town but they kept following him. He could feel a crowd starting to come towards his back and spared a glance and saw he was being surrounded. Several rocks struck him. A man charged forward with a sledgehammer thinking they had the warrior in front of them powerless. The lizardman slammed the man to the ground and pressed his foot on the throat of a man drawing his blade in case the crowd tried to rush him.
“I only wish to leave,” Sitha hissed at the mob. “I have no desire for bloodshed but I will kill if it means keeping myself safe. I know not what your grudge is but I have done you no wrong.”
He watched as the crowd took a step back from the range of his blade but they made no move to part for him to leave so he didn’t remove his foot from the man’s throat. The crowd was murmuring angrily but he couldn’t determine what they were planning to do yet. Sitha scanned the crowded for weak points to breakthrough if he had to. It did look that several members of the mob were leaving, most likely not wanting to risk the violence the lizardman was threatening but it also meant that those left were likely to not leave unless blood was shed.
“There is going to be no easy escape for you, monster,” a woman holding a large butcher knife threatened.
