Colleen Flynn was a beauty with long bright red hair neatly styled to be out of the way so she could work hard at her shop. The rumor was she had a great deal of debt built up by her father that she had to pay back under penalty of pain if she missed a payment. She was tiny, barely more than five feet in height and slim with none of the large curves many a man enjoyed but she was not a woman to be mistreated because she had a quick mind and a fiery temper.
Satisfied with the story Seras looked over the towns to start up her trading post in. The background of having a crippling debt would encourage people to try making black market deals with her so she could pay down the money she owed. People liked it when they had something they could hold over someone, it made them worry less about their own dark secrets. There was a delicate balance in being pretty but not too pretty because men liked to talk to an attractive woman but she didn’t want anyone getting too many ideas.
She narrowed down her choices to three, Lover’s Bluff was a great defensible position with only one way up to it that didn’t involve almost certain death from falling. It was on the edge of the wilderness with many hostile tribes and species that caused it to have to be closed off for long periods of time but war was always a source of great profits for those willing to take risks. Selling weapons could quickly earn her another fortune. She would have to be careful as the King had been cracking down on those who sold weapons and his men were likely to be watching the activity of a place so close to the border with the eyes of a hawk.
Carter’s Corner was a small nothing of a town, few people, few buildings and it was dominated by the Lord Mayor like it was his own personal kingdom but it had a great deal of potential. There were a lot of natural resources nearby, a river that could easily be converted to transporting goods and a nice central location that could make it a trade capital in no time. The main problem was all of the time and efforts it would require to make it something that would turn a profit. It was tempting to build a lasting future there but it would mean investing most of the money she had laid away over the years. It was a big risk that she wasn’t certain she wanted to risk and the Lord Mayor was going to be a problem because he was strangling the life from the place. He would certainly try to strangle the profits away from any business she built and she wasn’t going to let that happen.
Scarlet Cove was her final pick, a small fishing village along the coast that would make a great place to start a smuggling operation. The sheltered cove was perfect for bringing in goods and sending them out. Her major problem with it was how into each other's business everyone was. There was a creeping nature to the town that suggested the possibility of a cult. Another problem would be dealing with the pirates because they weren’t known for their good nature and many of them could be spotted by their wanted posters more than once the notoriety of a pirate had blown the cover a good alter ego. The good part of dealing with pirates was the money, they were very loose with it because they didn’t have the time to haggle usually as they were on the run from someone.
