Seras moved around the camp checking out who she was dealing with. There was a lot of trouble along the path to the south so you had to be desperate, greedy or foolish to take the risk. Seras was greedy for the reward the King would give her if she succeeded but she needed to know more about the others with her not so she could trust them, there were few she ever trusted, but she needed to know them so she could know how they would react and what they would do when trouble would occur or when an opportunity presented itself.
The Serpent Outfit was a large group that had many of the wagons on the train. The men working the wagons were some of least trustworthy of men she had ever seen. She recognized several of the men as murderers under penalty of death if they were caught. A large half-orc commanded the bunch and kept them in line. They feared him and with good reason because he seemed to have eyes in the back of his head and more strength and skill in his arms than any four of them. It was easy to see what he wanted, profits, it looked like the man was in line for a promotion in the outfit if he pulled this risky venture off and there were going to be few things that he let stop him.
One of the ones that worried her most was the Andra clan because they had a desperate look to them. It was a family heading south with three wagons filled to the brim with people and junk. They were always sneaking looks in other people’s wagons and observing everyone as if looking for something or someone. They fell into the desperate category and were the most dangerous of the groups because it was always hard to predict what a desperate person would do.
Summer’s Twilight was a band of mercenaries that fell into the foolish category because they had no idea what they were in for. Their confidence was far greater than the skill she had seen from any of them. The real problem she had with them is there seemed to be some sort of bet as to which one of them could bring her to their bed and she didn’t want involvement with any of them.
“Thief!” The cry rang out through the night air and Seras almost made a run for it until she realized it wasn’t directed at her. Her speed towards the source of the grew faster as she saw that someone was taking her wagon.
Instinctively she grabbed a horse and pressed it into a gallop, glad that she had made friends with Cassie Spring from the wagon in front of her. The woman had realized it wasn’t her at the reign of the wagon and she had given Seras the time she needed to prevent the theft. She rode hard to see who had taken her wagon.
