Take the cautious route

It was best to be cautious, he had struck a wound but prey was at the most dangerous when they were hurt. There would be better times to attack especially with him knowing someone was hunting them, it would make him panicked and paranoid, it was also certain recruits would be a lot more hesitant to join with what he was about to do.

Guards were rushing to protect the Prince which meant they weren’t protecting other things, he rushed to grab a couple of torches and threw them in the hay in the stables before he moved to leave this places. The more problems he caused for them the better, they might close ranks but it would mean the Prince would never get away.

Sitha only went a short distance in the woods before he started to backtrack through the trees, in his hunts he had seen the elves use the trees to great advantage because most species didn’t do a good job of observing the trees, it would allow him to keep close and take advantage of any opportunities that presented themselves.

He strapped himself down and went to sleep resting since he had some time, they wouldn’t be after him until morning unless they were complete fools. Sitha went into a dreamless slumber eager to start the hunt in the morning.

The warrior was careful to react slowly to the sounds that had awoken him, bits of sunlight were trickling in upon his scales. It would have been a pleasant morning if people weren’t seeking his death. He had the urge to move up into more densely packed branches but it would make too much noise, even the armored warriors clanking through the bushes were certain to notice him.

“Can you tell how many there were that attack us last night?” Prince Stephan asked one of the searchers.

“We need to secure the help of a ranger sir,” the man hesitated to give his liege bad news. “None of these men are master trackers, the lizardfolk are good in the wild. We have only found the one set of tracks and they vanish when they reach the woods.”

Prince Stephan slashed a hunk of wood from the tree, “Go hire one, I will gather the men, we need to make plans if we have to move, it will be hard with the loss of so many horses but if this was just a scouting mission we have to be ready to act. If it was just a single lizard I think I know who it is and it is an assassin sent by my Father. We must know as soon as possible, make sure you find out Captain Helm or all of our heads may be hanging from pikes.”

The Captain nodded and went back to guiding the search but he put in an order for a horse so he could go to hire a ranger. Prince Stephan moved back to the fort leaving Sitha to pick his next action.
