Hikozo said, “I need to tell you of the evil that lurks in the swamps. An ancient mummy stirs deep in the swamps. We know not what causes him to stir only that his servants stalk the swamps for sacrifices to fully awaken their master. Not even the sharp teeth are safe. We no longer travel alone that we might protect ourselves form their attacks. The rituals performed bring more danger to our swamps. The elders talk of either moving on trying to strike at them. We travel in this hunting party that we may kill some of them. We have had some luck but they are numerous.”
Garrett listened intently asking, “Could you point us in the direction that they come from? We were sent here to put an end to the evil. Any aid you can provide would be appreciated.” Garrett looked into Hikozo’s eyes to display his seriousness.
The lizardman nodded pleased with Garrett saying, “We thank you for your help. There is an ancient stone temple that the elders speak of. Our people have long considered it taboo to approach it. I will have the others travel home to tell the elders. I will lead you the best I can to the temple. Protecting my people should not be left to strangers to our land.” The other lizardmen nodded their understanding before hurrying off to alert their tribe that aid arrived. Hikozo hoped that they might persuade the elders to a more proactive approach.
The elders of the slow conservative thinking angered Hikozo who personally knew many of those taken by the monsters. They seemed to believe that in time the problem would take care of itself. Never committing to any decision just growing fat on the labors of others. With Sir Garrett help he believed they might defeat the evil. With that fame he could become chief. Under his leadership the tribe would prosper.
Garrett said, “Albert and me appreciate your strength and knowledge to ours. It adds to my belief in our eventual triumph.”
