An ambush seemed his best chance to take out the Prince because he was well protected inside the fort and it was likely to get harder to get at him as time went on so the lizardman decided to set up an ambush on the road near the fort. The Prince was likely to take a ride to the local villages to “recruit” people to his cause. Recruiting looked a lot like slavery to the eyes of Sitha but the important thing was knowing where the Prince would be.
There were no patrols of the forest near the fort at night so he worked at night to avoid notice preparing his ambush of his target. The work would be a lot easier if he could get some of the local villagers who hated the Prince to assist him but how could he know who to trust. Gold commanded the minds of many humans even when it was in their best interest to not listen to the shiny golden medal. Perhaps he could go after the prisoners that the humans had taken and get some assistance but it was likely the Prince would realize he was being targeted and become much more cautious about his actions.
Eyeing the large building far from the fort where the prisoners were kept he realized it was vulnerable. The fencing could be jumped over and there were only three guards at night. If he could slaughter the guards and free the prisoners it would slow the progress on the repairs to the fort and force the properly trained knights to go gathering villagers again leaving the Prince more vulnerable. The sun would be up again soon and he could come up with what he wanted to do during the day. It was a mistake to not take a chance when it presented itself.
