Aaron went along in stunned silence. Intrigued by the opportunity, and knowing if he... she turned it down, then a memory wipe would erase any trace of this. A small part of Aaron wondered if she'd be left like this... or restored to the Aaron she remembered.
It was unsettling, knowing she'd been a man, but feeling her new body, in every detail as a living contradiction those memories.
She nodded along, numbly agreeing with Michael. Only to recognise what he'd said as an offer. "Yes... yes, show me more." She stuttered and stammered. Still unsettled by the sound of her voice.
Michael extended a hand to Aaron, and as they touched. Reality shifted around them. Whirling dizzyingly, before unspiralling with them both standing on a hilltop. Aaron's head whipped around for anything familiar, for some trace of where they were.... or where they'd been.
Down the hill in a field, a farmer was abusing one of his cows. It was trudging too slowly through the mud. As the cow struggled it, bumped against the farmer knocking him into the mud. Getting up, covered in mud and cow shit, he lashed out. Cracking a thick branch against the cow's hide. The beast bellowed in pain, torment and confusion. Even as the branch snapped, it had gashed the beast's side open. Blood poured from the wound.
"We can fix this." Michael said. Holding the controller out, for Aaron's confirming hand to dispense the punishment. The tears streaming down Aaron's face assured Michael that he'd made the right choice.
The device shifted in his hand, as Aaron pushed the icon with a fury. In a blink, the farmer was gone. In his place another cow stood. Udder full of milk, sloshing beneath her torso... the confusion was clear on her face. She bellowed her outrage, but no human words could be formed by that throat.
Buried entirely beneath that hide the farmer's consciousness continued to ride along, as a passenger. The bare instincts of the beast over-riding any freewill the cruel man had held. She was just another anonymous beast in the herd.
