After several hours of riding the train into the desert, the sun eventually dipped down over the horizon. This gave the excited duo of Nyx and Scootaloo a chance to see a bright aura of light off in the distance, illuminating the growing dim. Pressing their faces against the cooling glass of the window, their train zoomed along the tracks toward the brilliant city that seemed to rise up over the horizon like a second sun.
"This is so freaking awesome," Scootaloo exclaimed, peeling herself from the window to bounce around the train car and punch the air a few times, simply unable to contain her energy. "I can't believe we're almost there! Las Pegasus! THE place for stunts and racing!"
"Yeah," Nyx replied, every bit as excited. "Before we know it, ponies are going to be packing the place to see Scootaloo: Fastest Pegasus on Wheels!"
Scootaloo laughed and replied, "I prefer 'Scootaloo: Tires of Fire' myself, but that does have a nice ring to it."
Nyx nodded, grinning widely as she looked down at her friend's cutie mark. A wheel that looked like it was spinning so fast that it had caught fire, and was going to zoom off Scootaloo's flank any moment. She had always been insanely talented with her scooter, but the mark hadn't appeared for a long time. It wasn't until she was a bit older and realized that her wings were never going to be strong enough to let her be a strong flier like her idol, Rainbow Dash. She had fallen into depression over it for a while, but thanks in small part to a zany scheme or two, the Cutie Mark Crusaders had helped her rekindle her love for wheeled vehicles instead. By letting go of her desire to be just like Dash and instead devote herself to developing her own skills, her cutie mark had finally appeared.
"And I get to be the roommate of the 'Tires of Fire'," Nyx said with a giggle. "I should get your autograph now before you're too big a star to be associated with us 'little ponies.'"
Really, the fact that they'd been offered opportunities in the same city was a miracle, especially since most of the police departments she'd applied for sent back replies that basically said, 'please don't ever contact us again' if they sent a reply at all. The Las Pegasus department, by contrast, had sent a glowing acceptance letter at the same time Scootaloo had gotten the attention of an amateur racing team. It was a fantastic turn of events for each of them, but being able to share the costs by travelling and rooming together was all the better.
After the train pulled into the station, the two disembarked with their luggage and gaped as they walked down the strip. Herds of ponies practically flooded the streets, contributing to the sensory overload of brightly lit signs for all the various casinos, clubs and other tourist attractions. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
