Chapter #4She's a Stallion in Solaris's Kingdom by: HyuugaLord19   Nyx gasped as she saw the lavender coat and blue mane of the pony in front of her. "Twilight?!" she yelped, before pausing. Wait a minute, this doesn't make sense! I left Twilight back at the library! What would she be doing out here, and in this condition?
Her cry had roused the unicorn somewhat, who began to stir, groaning. Nyx's eyes widened as the shifting revealed the familiar starburst cutie mark. Yet... something was different. As the unicorn started to rise, Nyx saw the squared-off snout and the more stocky build of a stallion, rather than the trim form of her adoptive mother. Flabbergasted, she stood there as the stallion double of Twilight rose to his hooves, grumbling.
"Very smooth, Dusk. Dunno what you did, but whatever it was failed spectacularly," he muttered. He opened his eyes, blinking them for a second to reveal the same violet shade as Twilight's. This was before his irises shrank considerably and he jumped away from her with a yelp. "GAAAAAH!"
The sudden motion and cry startled Nyx out of her stupor, and she held up her hooves in a placating gesture. "Whoa, whoa! I'm not going to hurt you!"
The unicorn didn't appear to hear her. "I don't know how you're here, but you won't take me, Sable Noctis
| For the record, Conner Cogwork's version of Nightmare Moon was originally called Anarchy Apollo. However, Apollo is a SUN deity, which makes little sense being applied to a creature of the MOON. Therefore, I've decided to rename him here. |
Nyx blinked repeatedly, as the unicorn attempted to charge up his magic for a spell. However, everything he tried fizzled out before manifesting. She sighed. "Look, whatever you're trying to do, it's not working. So why don't you calm down and tell me who you are?"
The stallion blinked a few times. "Wait a second... You're a mare!"
Nyx arched an eyebrow. "Last I checked, yes I was."
"But... then you can't be Sable Noctis," he elaborated. He looked contrite. "I'm sorry for any confusion, you just have quite the resemblence to him."
This did little to clear up Nyx's confusion. "I've never even heard of Sable Noctis," she said. "I've been compared to Nightmare Moon, but not whoever you're talking about."
The unicorn's jaw fell open. "Nightmare... Moon?" he repeated. "Never heard of her."
Nyx's eyebrows flew clear up to her maneline. "How can you not have heard of her? The Mare in the Moon, patron of Nightmare Night, evil side of Princess Luna, wanted to bring eternal night, is this ringing any bells?"
He shook his head. "You're the one not making sense! I've heard of the Colt in the Moon, not the Mare, and last I checked, Sable Noctis is the one who wanted to bring eternal night to Equestria! I stopped him with my friends, Applejack, Rainbow Blitz, Elusive, Butterscotch, and Berry Bubble."
Nyx blinked hard at that. The story was familiar, yet the names were all wrong. Still, an idea was forming in her head. "And... your name is...?"
The unicorn puffed out his chest slightly. "I'm Dusk Shine, personal student to our benevolent ruler Prince Solaris, and librarian at the Ponyville Books and Branches library!"
That confirmed it. There were too many coincidences, and only one plausible explanation. The alicorn took a breath. "Well, I'm sorry to tell you, Dusk Shine, but I don't believe you're in your native dimension anymore."
Dusk's eyes bugged out of his head. "Wha...?"
Nyx sighed, and began to elaborate. "First off, there's no 'Prince Solaris' here, but rather, Princess Celestia. Second, what you said about 'Sable Noctis' is identical to what we know of Nightmare Moon here. Third, you and your friends are all mares here with different, yet fairly similar names."
Dusk blinked several times in succession. "So... I'm in a dimension where everypony's gender has been switched?"
"That appears to be the case, yes."
Dusk nearly collapsed in relief. "Thank Solaris! I thought for a moment I was dealing with a madmare." He blinked, and looked sheepish. "Um, no offense."
Nyx chuckled. "None taken." She held out a hoof. "I'm Nyx, reincarnation of Nightmare Moon turned good."
Dusk gaped. "Uh... you're kidding, right?"
She chuckled. "Nope. Why, what am I called in your dimension?"  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
