The door to the treehouse swung open, and Finn and Jake walked through, completely covered in blood from head to toe. Their features were indiscernible underneath the thick coat of red, not a single color was visible but the blood that soaked their bodies. BMO screamed, raising his fists. "Bandits! Get out! Before I call the police! Don't make me use my martial arts on you!"
Finn chuckled, wiping his eyes clean. "Haha, it's just us, BMO. Chill." The little game system relaxed, lowering his arms. Finn jumped onto the ladder leading up to the main floor, with Jake stretching his way up behind him.
"Man, I still can't believe how you skronked up that Goblin king!" Jake boasted as the brothers ascended the ladder. Finn paused, turning around with a sullen look in his eyes.
"He got what was coming to him." he said in a low voice. The two made their way over to the living room table, sitting down at the couch.
"Yeah, yeah, heroism and everything, I get it." Jake quipped sarcastically as he sat next to Finn. "But enough of that jazz, let's bust out the loot!" Finn dumped out his backpack to divide the spoils of their quest.
Coins and jewelry spilled across the table, accompanied by gems and weapons of all sorts. As the flow of treasure ebbed, one final thing fell from Finn's pack. A glass sphere, enchanted with what appeared to be a black hole in the center.
"I CALL THAT ONE!" Finn yelled quickly, grabbing the ball from the top of the pile. Jake looked crestfallen.
"I wanted that one! Hhmph!" he crossed his arms. "Well, I get the rest of it if you get that thing." Finn was too entranced with his new possession to care.
"Sure, take it man." Finn stared into his trinket, holding it with his blood-soaked hands and admiring the spiraling patterns inside. Jake looked over, obviously envious, before grabbing all the treasure with his stretchy arms and storming off, pieces of gold and gems falling from his grasp.
"Fine, didn't want it anyway... stupid sphere." he muttered under his breath as he walked away.
Meanwhile, Finn continued to stare into the orb as the black hole churned away inside. He felt as though he wanted to get closer to the sphere, to get inside... just watch it forever... Finn almost passed out in his trance, sending the ball falling out of his hands.
"Oh snap!" Finn cried as he realized what had happened. The orb careened towards the ground, finally smashing on the ground. Wisps of dark energy flew from the shards and spun around Finn.
"Uhhh... Jake?" he tried to cry out, but his voice was made quiet by the veil of energy surrounding him. The wisps rotated faster and faster, engulfing Finn in a shroud of rotating darkness. He closed his eyes, feeling sure that he was about to die. Finn quivered as he awaited the end, but suddenly the energy stopped. That is, before the wisps flew directly into his stomach.
Cautiously, Finn opened his eyes. He felt like the wind had been knocked out of him, but he was alive. He patted himself all over, laughing manically. He was alive! Finn looked down, remembering the smashing of the orb, but the floor was perfectly clear of any debris. Had it happened at all? Finn was sure that he was surrounded by dark energy only moments ago, but he didn't feel tired or sick. He just felt... hungry. Finn grabbed his stomach, looking around the treehouse. Jake and BMO were nowhere to be seen. Maybe he had imagined the whole ordeal? Getting up from the couch, his stomach rumbled. Finn decided he needed to do something.
