Chapter #3

A clandestine meeting in Beirut.

by: Adeptus Astartes Author IconMail Icon
In an apartment building in Beirut's southern Dahieh suburb, there was a meeting taking place of two mid-level commanders within the Hezbollah terrorist group. Known only by their first names, Zhulfiqar and Ali, they were well known to the intelligence communities in Israel and the U.S. "This is all I could get hold of." Ali said in Arabic, as he placed three small plastic bags on the table in front of him, causing Zhulfiqar to look down, "This should be enough for now." he added.

"Good work!" Zhulfiqar muttered, as he picked up one of the bags and inspected the 'product' inside. "We need to get this down to Udaysah." he said, looking at Ali, referring to a small town in the south of Lebanon, close to the Israeli border.

"I've got men outside waiting to head south." Ali responded.

"Good! Time to make the Zionists bleed, insha'Allah!" Zhulfiqar nodded.

Gathering up the bags of 'Dust' again, Ali slipped them into his coat and proceeded to head out of the door, followed by his 'friend'. The two of them made their way outside the apartment building and into the deserted street, where a pick-up truck with four heavily armed terrorists was waiting. Zhulfiqar glanced at his watch, it was 3:20am, he then got into the vehicle alongside Ali and their journey south commenced.

When the vehicle was just past the town of Kfar Faqud, a well-placed bullet suddenly smashed through the windshield of the car and killed the terrorist who was driving. As the lifeless body slumped over the steering wheel, the truck veered off the road and into a ditch. The two terrorists in the back of the pick-up truck had little time to react, and they too were suddenly dropped by precise shots from suppressed weapons. Ali frantically reached for the bags in his pocket as Zhulfiqar drew his pistol and exited the truck, taking cover in the ditch along with the gunman who had been in the passenger seat of the truck.

Ali was in the process of opening one of the bags containing the powerful drug when another bullet came in through his window and blew away the back of his skull. Ali's body slumped in the back seat of the vehicle, as Zhulfiqar wondered what he could possibly do to get out of this situation. As it turned out...he could do nothing. Two masked figures dressed in black combat fatigues suddenly appeared from behind the crashed truck and both Zhulfiqar and the last gunman died in a hail of bullets.

As six more masked figures approached, guns at the ready, the two already at the truck signaled the 'all clear'. After a quick search of the truck, the three bags of Dust were retrieved and the men immediately left the scene before anyone arrived. Once a safe distance away, the men took cover and one of them broke radio silence. "Jericho, this is Solomon 2-9, mission accomplished. Suspects liquidated and we have the merchandise" the man said in Hebrew.

"Solomon 2-9, this is Jericho, message received. Proceed to extract point for pick up." came the reply over the radio.

"Confirmed Jericho!" the black-clad, lead figure said, before turning his radio off again.

The eight men, members of Israel's elite Sayeret Matkal unit, then started off towards the rendezvous point, two miles northwest of the town of Ayn Wzayn. And in Jerusalem, news of the mission's success was greeted with relief rather than jubilation. One...or perhaps several atrocities had been thwarted with the seizure of this small amount of 'Dust', but the Israelis knew that they could not let their guard down for a minute. They were already planning their next pre-emptive strike.

The Sayeret Matkal unit that had infiltrated deep inside Lebanon returned back their base in Haifa following its safe extract.
