Chapter #3

Small changes that change everything.

Quite a while happened until someone came back in; not nearly enough to process this all, but barely enough to feel the weight of the changes that have been made in my life, and how all i could do now was dealing with it. I saw Aaron and my dad coming in thru the door. I didn’t know what to say to them; so I just stared at them as they walked over to my bedside.

Looking at me, dad said, “It's good to have you back, Brian.”

“To be honest, I’m hoping this is a dream.” Sighing, I said, “That I’m going to wake up and still be a boy.”

“I’m sorry, kiddo. But,” looking at me, Dad said, “This is real.”

Looking at dad, tearing up, I said, “How could you let them do this me!?”

“I didn’t have much of a choice, Brian.” Taking a breath, Dad said, “This was really the only viable way to give you a normal life.”

“Normal!?” getting angry, I said, “You call waking up to find you’re a girl NORMAL!?”

“Calm down, Brian.” Trying to calm me down, Dad said, “This is a big change for everybody!”

“I don’t see your world completely turned upside down!” i shouted, panicked "I didn't even had a choice in all this!"

“I didn’t have much of a choice either, Brian.” Looking at me, Dad said, “It was either this; or they’d make you a sexless male.”

“Shouldn’t I have been a part of the decision making?” looking at Dad, I said, “This is my life we’re talking about.”

“They needed a decision almost as soon as you got here, Brian.” Taking a breath, Dad said, “You were losing a lot of blood; and there wasn’t enough time to wake you up before it was too late.”

"Still, don't you think throwing my old life away just like that is too extreme?!" Still somewhat panicked, i replied.

"Look, i'm not too happy about this either, but i chose life for both of us, and you should be glad i did instead of barely keeping you alive"

"Well if this is life, then maybe i'm not willing to be a part of it!"

Rather than try to reason with me, Dad simply turned and ushered Aaron out of the room. Before closing the door, dad turned to me and said, "We'll talk later, when you are able to stay calm, young lady."

Hearing that, I burst into tears as the door closed. As I cried, I wondered why I was being so emotional all of a sudden.
