Shikamaru often visited Suna on official business, often working alongside Temari. So when he was summoned to Suna and presented to Gaara, he was not surprised. He was surprised, however, when he found Temari nowhere in attendance. Just Gaara, Kankuro and their former sensei, Baki. All three looked haggard and tired. Where was Temari? Shikamaru couldn't help but wonder. If she were dead, they surely would have given word before this. They wouldn't just have brought him all the way here to tell him-
After a few pleasantries, Gaara said the words he had been dreading:"I'm sorry to have to tell you this, Shikamaru, but it concerns Temari-"
He could feel himself pale. But he forced himself to appear nonchalant, to just stand and let Gaara continue.
"-I would like to just be able to tell you what is wrong, but I feel that it would be more appropriate to show you."
He turned, followed by the others. They were all extremely silent, pale and tired. Shikamaru couldn't help but fear for the worst as they came to a set of doors in the middle of the long hall.
Slowly, Gaar knocked. "Matsuri, is everything going well?"
The doors opened to reveal a very disheveled Matsuri. "Yeah, I just got her to bed. Can't this wait?"
