Chapter #4

You call a friend to hang out.

Since it's Saturday, you decided to call your best friend Nathan to hang out. You did not feel as bad as you felt yesterday or earlier and you thought it wouldn't hurt for your friend to come over. You called Nathan, "Hey dude, want to come over for a while and just hang out?", you asked casually. You were glad when he answered in the affirmative. "I'll be right over", he said. You hang up and went to the bathroom to brush your teeth.

You examined your face in the mirror and saw nothing amiss. "Good, no change. I hope that serum does not affect me..", you thought.

About an hour later, Nathan arrived and as soon as he entered he gave you the usual greeting, which was really a combination of high and low fives ending with a fist bump that you two have always used from as far as you could remember.

"So what did you have in mind for today Jazz?, Nathan asked.

"Let's go for a spin and then take in a movie.", you announced.

Your mom came into the living room and asked, "Jazz, are you sure you want to go out today? Why not stay here with your friend Nathan and do something else?"

You knew mom was concerned about the possible changes the serum might have on you but you felt fine and you told her so. "Oh OK then, just make sure you come straight home the moment you feel anything.", she sighed.

You and Nathan left in Nathan's car. Nathan drove to the City Sports Center and you talked about a lot of things on the way until the conversation turned to the field trip. "You think anything might happen to you because of the serum that spilled on you?", Nathan asked curiously.

"Nah", you replied with a chuckle, "As you can see, nothing happened, I'm the same old Jazz. I'll be fine..",

Nathan nodded, satisfied and pulled up in the parking lot at the Sports Center.

You went over to a group of guys shooting hoops. You recognized a few of them as members of your school's basketball team. Sometimes on a Saturday, you would come to the Center and join the players shooting hoops. At nearly six foot one, you have the height for basketball and you were a good player. You were also the captain of your school's basketball team.

"Hey guys! Room for two more?", you asked cheerily. "Sure, come on in!", one of the guys answered.

Soon you were fully engaged in a sweaty and rough game of basketball and you actually scored some points. Midway through the game however, you suddenly felt weak and almost fell. Whoa, what's this? you thought. The ball rolled away from you in mid dribble and you felt too weak to go after it. Nathan noticed and came over to you, concern etched on his face. "Hey man, you lost the ball. What's that about...", he asked and stopped suddenly as he saw your ashen face. The game stopped as the others came over. "Hey Jazz, what's wrong?", one asked.

"I - I'm fine....", you barely muttered before falling to the ground.
