It was late evening, pitch black outside Laurence fidgeted anxiously on the Royal Throne as he awaited his uncles arrival, Cosimo had 'news' to tell him. The Privy Council was told it was 'family' trouble back in Florentine, and were told by Cosimo in no graceful way, that they could not be present when he informed the King. Eventually his uncle arrived, he strode quickly down the lengthy isle that lead to the raised platform that the mighty golden Throne was placed upon.
"Your Majesty" He said respectfully, following it up with a bow.
"Uncle" Laurence said cheerfully.
"We should keep this brief. Certain members of the Privy Council were offended that they aren't 'privy' to this discussion, the Dowager Queen's agents inform me that several have seeked answers from Florentine."
"Are you sure nobodies listening in?" Laurence inquired.
"I'm not sure that nobodies 'trying to', but the scale of the throne room and the thickness of the doors and walls means they'll be disappointed" he answered, "they say this is the most secure room in the nation. I think we'll be fine... for the time being."
"What is it you have to tell me"
"I have heard back from Merica, my agents have informed me that there is passage for your policy to commence. They say that Queen Mary is powerhungry, but that war would be her last choice. She favours diplomacy. We should not trust or underestimate this Queen, your Majesty, but it seems that she has her best interests at heart. They can not say how possible a Marriage alliance is to her, but one is almost certainly possible with a member of her family."
"How do we proceed?"
"We must inform the Queen that we have plans for peace and an alliance, and we must do it though unusual channels, lest it be sabotaged by a naysayer. Should it get as far as negotiations, they would prosper best if you met face to face."
"How will you inform her."
"I suggest that you get the council to agree to send an emissary, with a message of their choosing, and an emissary of your choosing. I would recommend you sent the Dowager Queen... your mother. I fear it must be a close family member, and many council members will not trust me."
"Very good uncle. We will do as you say. I meet with the Privy Council tomorrow morning. The issue of was Mercia is sure to be raised. Will you inform mother?" Laurence was barely containing his excitement, he didn't want the throne - but it was his by birthright, and he couldn't wait to get one up on the disrespectful Lords who were trying to take his power for their own gains. Cosimo once again bowed before he stepped quickly out of the throne room. After a couple of seconds Laurence stood up and headed out the side entrance which lead to his private rooms.
