The taunts of his brother had soon left his head - and his brother, so it seemed. As George found knew things to tease his elder brother with, and other things to occupy his admittedly fleeting attentions, James continued as the ever dutiful courtier - eldest brother to the queen, for now - Crown Prince, conciliator and most eligible of bachelors.
As he looked out unto the court, it was the latter which he had thus refused to embrace with his fullest of enthusiasms. There were many beautiful women at court, many heirs of great fortunes that would kill - literally - to marry the queen's attractive younger brother. For James however, the young women were not quite so appealing - nor was being tied to one for the rest of his life, inevitable though that might be. An adult, and Crown Prince he might be, James still had boyish desires - and admittedly childish dreams of love and romance. Those which he became infatuated were not uncommon at this court, just off limits.
The future was something his younger brother could stave off for a few more years, for James it was here, and it was only his gentle reluctance that stalled his sister's insistance. He doubted the queen knew of his desires, or cared, either way her decision would be the same, and it would be final.
