Ziar drove her vehicle, and soon enough, she stopped in front of the Zeris Cafe. "Here we are."
"This is fairly expensive, even for a teacher," said Maria.
"Wait until you get inside," said Ziar. "Got a big surprise for you."
"A retirement party?" Maria asked.
Ziar chuckled. "Yes. The school planned one for you. Got all of your students from the last fifteen years, well, those who could make it anyways, to come as well."
"You know how to butter a girl up, friend," said Maria.
"Actually, I was thinking about something more unique for you," said Ziar.
"What do you mean?" Maria asked.
"Well, let's be serious, you're lucky to have made it to the end of the year, but you are going to need more than luck to make it to the start of the next school year," said Ziar. "I had a chat with your doctor, which is one of the benefits of being your Designated Predator. The next few months are going to be rough for you, and will be much worse."
"I know," said Maria. "Been sleeping more often, and the pain has been getting to me. I am thinking about making my Final Decision, and allow you to eat me."
Ziar gave a light chuckle. "If that is what you want, I'll do it for you. As it is, I know how much you like the different sauces, so, in case you made the Final Decision, I've made arrangements with the proprietors, here and in a number of other places, just in case you don't make the Decision here, to pour a concoction of different sauces and such all over you, after a wash of course, and then have you in the oven for a bit, after which, I get to enjoy you."
Maria chuckled. "Something to think on."
The pair entered the restaurant, where Maria was shocked at the number of former students that had shown up. Then, there were the communicator screens, showing more of her students in the neighboring restaurants, five thousand former students in total.
"I'm impressed," said Maria. "You got twenty restaurants to help you hold this party?"
"Some of the owners are former students of yours, and others are good friends of those students," said Ziar. "That, and having a lot of paying customers tends to help."
"I told you that I hoped to see you again," said Zurman, as the Reptilian came up to her.
Maria chuckled. "Good to see you as well."
"Well, as guest of honor, let's get you something to eat," said Ziar.
"Agreed," said Maria.
Soon enough, Maria began to enjoy herself, as food and drinks were passed this way and that, as everyone tried to talk to her, and each other, swapping stories about their times as her students.
