The portal starts to shine brighter. Particles begin emitting at a faster rate. Sparks of electricity begin crackling through the air as all of this is playing out in front of you.
This has never happened before. Throughout the testing process you've only ever sent things through the portal, not the other way around. You never really did test the latter half, mainly because you didn't have any willing test subjects available (this was only a private project, the funds coming from favors you pulled out of college acquaintances - with the added bonus of them keeping things quiet.) Then a thought occurred - what would have happened if you tried to go home after you've had your fun with Yuffie? Would you have been able to get back home? Would you be stuck in the realm of Final Fantasy VII forever? Not that it wouldn't have been bad - then again, there was always the possibility of running into the wrong people in that game, like monsters, SOLDIERs, or even Sephiroth - you drop the thought right then and there, and return your focus to the portal.
It's fluctuating now. Originally, it only took a triangular shape, but now it's distorting in shape and color. And by the looks of things, it's only going to get worse.
Instruments hooked up to the portal started overloading. You dash to the main control panel to try and find the problem. However, the screen keeps flashing several errors, programs, processes - until a giant "WARNING" plastered itself onto the screen, before shutting off. Of course, this did not stop the situation at hand. You could only look on as the portal glowed brighter, brighter...
The screeching from it all was deafening. By now, almost all of the equipment has shut down or overloaded. And still the portal remains functioning.
You could only shield your eyes and pray that it all doesn't blow up in your face.
...
...
...
...It's all quiet now. The light appears to have faded, but you're still seeing spots as you withdraw your arms. As your vision returns to you, you look around.
The laboratory was kinda wrecked. Machines were either whirring down or blown out completely. Fortunately, it was all salvageable. It would take some time to fix it all up, but at least it wasn't all gone.
The portal was gone. The gate that acted as its containment field was empty, showing only the other side of the room. The inside of the gate was charred, almost melted together. That would be a problem fixing up.
Overall you feel crushed. There goes all your hard work, now just a pile of molten metal and circuitry. It almost looked like a modern art piece. You'd call it "Crushed Dreams," as it was very applicable right now.
You're now back at the front of the portal. You tilt your head downward, further surveying the damage, that you almost miss the figure lying underneath the gate. You jump in surprise - just who is this person? Where did they come from? Were they responsible for the malfunction?
The most important question nagging your mind, however: Did they come through the portal?
Cautiously, you approach the figure. Their face was to the ground, so you couldn't readily recognize them; inspecting the bodily proportions, you deduct that the person is female, but the attire seemed familiar.
A green, sleeveless turtleneck jumper, revealing their torso, brown, fingerless gloves, tan shorts, and orange shoes covered the body. What appeared to be an arm guard was discarded and laid near her body, along with a giant shuriken. The strands from a headband laid across the back of her head.
It couldn't be.
You kneeled down to further inspect the body. There was no visible sign of injuries, but you still gingerly turned the body over.
Your eyes widened as you see Yuffie's sleeping face right before you.
Again, your head fills with thoughts. Is this real? Are you imagining things? No, you're touching her right now; you brush some hair off her face, you hear her breathing softly, see her chest rise and fall rhythmically. How did she end up being teleported here? Did she discover this on accident? Was it the coincidence? Did the RNG work in your favor and so the portal catch her at the right place in the right time? More and more questions flood your head, but one stood alone amongst them.
Well, what are you waiting for? She's here, right? What are you gonna do now?
What are you going to do?
