The Na’vi are a sentient race of blue humanoids who hail from the jungle moon of Pandora, the are organized in complex clans with their own traditions and religious practices.
Na’vi are 10ft. Tall bipedal creatures who have light blue skin with dark blue stripes across their lanky body, they are able to grow long black hair which is either grown into Mohawks or is braided depending on the culture of the clans which their are hundreds of scattered all across the lush landscape of Pandora. Unlike humans the Na’vi poses the tsaheylu which is a special strand of hair hidden within the hair of the Na’vi that helps them connect cognitively with animals they wish to ride and is used to mate with other Na’vi.
(Authors note this are the original clans and not cannon with the movie or lore) Some of the smaller and less known clans include:
The Kätxsärve Clan: a small group located in the jungle region of Pandora who hunt and gather the local fruits and root-based plants for food, medicine and weave the remaining plant matter into clothing, although they do hunt it is done as a right of passage for those looking to become warriors of the clan they must kill and skin a viper wolf from the jungle, once the young Na’vi returns with the viper wolf pelt they have killed it is blessed by the shaman of the clan by roasting the viper wolf and hosting a feast for the village, after the viper wolf has been consumed the young Nav’i who hunted the viper wolf must perform a ceremonial dance judged by the shaman, if they dance accordingly they are crown with the viper pelt as an official warrior of the clan however if they fail to dance as of tradition they are to be exiled from the clan immediately for if they stay it is believed they’re presence will curse and slowly destroy the clan itself.
The Äpxwawä'ite Clan: a small group located in the equatorial desert region of Pandora who are a nomadic people who ride on Direhorses across the harsh desert lands of Pandora hunting and collecting the bones of land around them to craft weapons and armor while wearing heavy layers of animal hides as clothing in order maintain a flow of air while protecting their large lithe bodies from the suns rays. For centuries since their formation they have followed the same pathway between the oasis’s of the desert trading with other clans in and outside of the desert their bone crafts and charms using maps made from animal hide they’ve hunted and is written using the blood of their Direhorse companions. They believe that following the same route helps them stay connected to their ancestors and if any of their people were to stray from the path they’d be straying from their blood line and thus will no longer be allowed back into the clan.
The Fketìukx Clan: a small group of Na’vi located in the coastal region of Pandora who are renown fisherman, navigators and canoe craftsman who gather the local fruit and root-based plants for food, medicine and weave the remaining plant matter for clothing. These people also harvest the local fish population hunting them for a month while letting them grow and repopulate every two months. In order to help the population of fish grow and be sustainable the clan hosts feasts of fruits and root-plants and ceremonial dancing and signing at the first of the regrowth months, the harvesting, growth and celebration dates are tracked via stone tablets that once complete carved on are broken to honor the ancestors and to thank the land for providing for them for so many generations.
