Chapter #6

Hesitation?

    by: GWriter Author IconMail Icon
"... help me out with these other designs?" the unicorn asks.

"Sure, Rarity," you answer, slightly confused. As Rarity explains the insecurities she's been having over her latest designs, your mind keeps replaying that brief moment. That brief moment where you... "sensed" something in the mare when she asked you to help her out. Was it... hesitation? No, it couldn't be. Rarity's not the kind of pony to hesitate. Besides, why would she need to hesitate over asking you to look at some designs of hers? Unless... unless she wanted to ask you something else. You decide to pay it no mind and start paying attention to what Rarity's saying.

"So I can't help but think that the jewel arrangement on this dress can be better, but I don't know how," she says.

"Well, I think you should experiment with different arrangements," you say. "I'm sure it'll come to you."

"Thanks, darling," she says, and she stays quiet for a minute before speaking again. "Um... [your name]?"

"Yeah?" you answer.

"Do you think I could ever be somebody's type, or am I just too high-maintenance?" she asks.

"Why would you even think that?" you ask. You never thought that Rarity was "too high-maintenance". Sure, she could be a drama queen at times, and she does have some extravagant tastes, but she was never unreasonable or demanding like a typical high-maintenance girl.

"Well... it's just that I've been evaluating my love life for a while," she explains. "I've gotten a taste of what high-maintenance was when I met Prince Blueblood at the Gala. Celestia knows how long it's been since then. I've been through three boyfriends in my life, all of whom I've dated during our second year of high school. They all wanted to break up because they thought that my standards were too high, but they can't be. All I want is a regular guy. Is that too much to ask?"

"It isn't," you say bluntly. "They were most likely making excuses. I think the problem with guys like your exes is that they expect girls as pretty as you to be just that, pretty girls. Once they saw that you were more than that, I guess they felt intimidated."

"Well that makes sense, I can definitely see what you mea- did you say I was pretty?" asks the unicorn.

"Well... yeah..." you say.” But I'm sure you get that all the time," you say.

"Yes, but it's usually from guys that hit on me," Rarity says with a sigh. "I'm glad we're friends, [your name]. You're always there, looking out for me, helping me when I need it the most. I'm sure the girl you're taking to the dance can't wait to go with you."

"Actually, I don't have a date," you say.

"Oh you don't?" she asks, surprised. "Well..."

You have the following choices:

*Pen*
1. "...would you like to take me?" (Direct approach)

2. "...is there anypony you have in mind?" (Indirect approach)

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
