It was a girl with long black hair. She was wearing a red dress with black and green striped sleeves and matching shoes. She was struggling to keep her umbrella over her as the wind blew.
"I can't watch this" Cat said
She drove the car up to the girl and rolled down the window "Hey kid" she said "Where are you headed"
"School" she said
"Darkwood Elementary?" she asked
The girl nodded, "I'm taking my brother there" she said pointing back to Simon "Hop in, l'll give you a ride"
The girl shivered as the rain intensified. She closed her umbrella, clawed at the door handle and crawled inside.
"Thank you" she said
She looked over at Simon "Hi" she said
"Hi" Simon mimicked "What's your name?"
"D-D-Desdemona" she said
"You must be really cold" Cat said "I'll crank up the heat"
They rode in silence for most of the way, aside from Cat's questions
"Why were you walking in the rain?" she asked "Don't you ride the bus"
"I've never ridden a bus before" she said
"What about your parents" she asked "Why wouldn't they take you"
"They went to work early" she said "And our chaffeur was on break. I decided to walk, it only started raining on the way"
"Chaffeur?" she repeated "You have a chaffeur?"
Desdemona nodded, her gaze continuously drifted back to Simon, who felt a bit unnerved by the attention. When the car stopped at the school, Desdemona jumped out
"Thank you" she said as she ran inside the school
"Weird kid" Cat said
Simon got out "Thanks for the ride sis" he said
"No problem" she said "I'll be back around to pick you up when school's over. Oh and Simon...."
He turned back to his sister "Try not to get in any trouble"
"It's just my first day" he said "How much trouble can I get in on day one?"
