Senior year. Time for Blake to finally be the big man on campus, and around the house for that matter, right? Time for him to be the star of the football team, and have one last year of fun with his friends before heading off to college away from his parents and his eleven-year-old kid brother Cooper, right?
Well, that's how it was supposed to work. But that wasn't in the cards this year for Blake, as he would have to deal with Cooper and all the other boys his age becoming bigger and dominating over the town. Stuff like that has a habit of overshadowing anything (and anyone) else.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Let's start on Day One of Pearson Town's Growth Event. A Wednesday in August, the week before school started. Blake was coming home from football practice, pumped from having been named this year's starting quarterback for Pearson High's Fighting JungleCats. Cooper and his friend Julian were downstairs playing video games in the basement.
As he walked in the door, Blake called down the stairs to his brother. "Hey, dweeb, I'm home. Get ready to give up the TV." He didn't mean anything hurtful by his remarks, but after all, Cooper was his dorky little brother, and it was his right as oldest to have the TV to himself when he got home.
When the only response he heard was the sound of the video games getting louder, Blake shook his head and started downstairs. "Did you hear me? It's my turn. Save your game or whatever and scram."
As he got to the bottom step, however, he stopped dead in his tracks, staring at...
