Cecil, history teacher

Cecil turned the dictaphone over in his hands. Pulling on the decorative ribbon, he undid the bow around it. Re-reading the note, he was sure it was one of his students pranking him. He certainly didn't believe in 'wishes come true'.

Sure that the prankster was watching from somewhere, or somehow. He just left it alone, looking at the pile of marking, and the grades he'd just given. He wished they applied this level of imagination to their works, rather than their jokes. Still turning it over in his hands, he was fairly sure it'd still work.

He could use his mobile to record any message for himself.

His class on the upper floor couldn't have someone looking in the window, and it was clear that he was alone in the room. It was only a short walk to the door, confirming that the hallway was empty too. With a shrug, he returned to his seat, trying to find a way to use this to engage with one student, and hopefully inspire more engagement.

The idea of it being real was kind of amusing, and as he looked around his class, his eyes lingered of some of the posters decorating the wall. A selection: of medieval castles; a copy of the declaration of Independence; a couple of Victorian ladies in their stiff corsets, strait-laced; the ruins of ancient Rome; and a smattering of others that he personally found inspired him.

Significant points in history, or just sparked his curiosity. With a wry smile on his face, he raised the dictaphone up and pressed record. A brief snort that the wheels turned told him it still had life in the battery. If it had been dead he'd have abandoned the idea.

Cecil wished to experience his most intriguing moment from history.

He's startled, when his class seems to melt away, instinctively his grip tightened around the dictaphone. Cecil felt his clothes melt away too. As he passed through a dimensionless void, and a whole new set of surroundings solidify in their place...
