Whistling a cheerful tune to himself, Hayate walked to where he knew his mistress was. She was reading one of her recent favorite manga, reclining lethargically across the arms of an overstuffed lazy chair. Her eyelids were drooping as she read, and it looked like she must have stayed up late doing everything but sleeping last night.
Again.
Hayate quietly shook his head in silent disapproval of his lady's careless, unmotivated lifestyle, and he fingered the watch in his pocket. It's surface was smooth and cool, free of any scratches or imperfections even in spite of the object's obviously considerable age. He could also envision, quite clearly, the polished sheen of its solid gold chain and casing.
Even though the object had been absolutely covered in dust when the young butler had first found it, a quick brushing of his fingers against the metal showed that it still shone quite brilliantly under the dirty coating, and a quick rinse and dry had revealed the object to look as good as brand new, as though it had been bought and then immediately stored away to gather dust without even having been used once.
Hayate smiled.
It was a very nice watch.
"Look, Milady!" he said cheerfully to Nagi, catching his mistress's attention as he withdrew the watch from his pocket.
"Nice watch," said the young blonde, seemingly unimpressed by the object.
"Keep your eyes on it~" Hayate instructed her. "I want to show you a neat trick..."
Nagi frowned a little, thoughtfully perhaps, but she nonetheless sat up and turned her attention to the watch, which Hayate proceeded to let dangle down, holding it up by its chain. He began to swing it back and forth, and Nagi's eyes followed the object's progress curiously.
"You are getting very sleepy..." said Hayate, the smile not leaving his face once as he saw his mistress's eyelids begin to droop even further, though her pupils were still following the watch's pendulous course.
She was in a trance, it would seem. The trick had worked! Nagi was hypnotized!
...but what kind of suggestion would he make to her?
