The Expiraments Begin

    by: Plaidegenerate Author IconMail Icon
Evie writhes in her dark box for about an hour, not that she'd know it. At one point the gag fell out, spelling doom for that scrap of meat on the floor.
Moments before being dazzled by bright operating room lights she'd been wishing she had that meat back to keep her busy.
Once again a gag gets slapped into place and she's being manhandled by anthros. A thick leather collar is fitted around her neck and wrists with chains fastened to the wall. Across the room there's a male with the same setup straining to break free.
A pudgy human man, white haired and balding, with little circular glasses stands before the other zombie. He's prodding it with a long stick making it growl and moan in pain.
Then without hesitation he drops the stick and slides an aluminum tray across to it, with a piece of meat. Immediately the male forgets his anger in favor of rewards, and slumps to the table for his meal.

"Interesting. Even short term goals fail to be met in favor if gratification by sustenance. Hmm... Ah, and how did you come across this one?"

The Zebra man steps further into Evie's view, flashes a smug smile and explains the little ruse between the "defenceless girl" and the little rabbit. Said "girl" steps forward herself to address her account.

Evie was decidedly uninterested.
"So it chose the rabbit only for being closer. Yes, that seems to match my own results well. But... I notice this one isn't reacting much to our presence. Mister Garcia, would you do me a favor and bring Buck out a moment?"

"Now you aren't gonna feed him to your pet monster are you?" Despite his protests "Garcia", a brown haired lagomorph man in military attire, still produces a wire cage containing the white rabbit from earlier.
Evie's pale eyes siddle up to the bun in its shiny basket immediately, and she begins to fight her restraints.

"No no, of course I'd never. Buck is an integral part of our capture operations, he will be quite safe.
Still, it's a curious response... substitute Buck for Jane, if you would."
She watches the rabbit be taken away. Excuse me, I wanted to eat that!
Moments later a squealing black furred female rabbit is carried in, squealing due to having seen the other zombie shambling across the room.
Evie however is utterly distracted.

"Fascinating! This subject- oh, I must record this!" The scientist shuffles off to his office on the other side of a large panel of bullet proof glass to hit the record command on a large camera. Scuttling his way back into frame he beguns talking in an exaggeratedly pronounced tone.
"Doctor Darian Bradford, here with Subject One-One,-Seven-Three, sex, apparent female, height... eh, to be measured-anyway! Subject shows remarkable cognitive selective characteristics. Observe! Mister Garcia, please bring Jane a bit closer, that's it... subject shows no response. Now, bring Buck back in if you would, yes... there! See! See how subject One-One Seven-Three is drawn to this particular rabbit specimen. In lieu of easier and more visible prey- oh shush Garcia they aren't in real danger- this subject only shows interest in This rabbit. I will now approach the subject. Please note my similarly bright white lab coat. No reaction! This proves this qoute unqoute 'zombie' has some rudimentary level of recognition, for you see this exact rabbit was used as live bait to aquire this subject not hours ago this same evening!"

For hours his rambling autodocumentary carries on, intermittently taking short breaks to begin new recordings of individual experiments, seeing if she would choose to eat plain meat when given (she did), whether she would choose plain meat over the live rabbit (she ate while grabbing for the rabbit), how she would react to seemingly identical rabbits (she reacts with confusion, then goes for the calm one, aka Buck). The experimentation doesn't come to an end until other people, mostly anthros, come in to insist the doctor step away for his own health.
