"We can be of better help in a world we are better familiar with and have allies who will stand by us through thick and thin." Serious, I said. "I'm sure Chon would agree that everyone would like to see Chang back in action, even though it is for a short while."
Neon nodded. "So be it." Calmly, he said. "Be aware, however, that this world and who you discovered within it must remain beyond top secret."
"This is not Heaven but a parallel world some of those who had passed on found themselves living a second life." Serious, Chang said. "Call it reincarnation, call it what you like but..." He bit his lip before finishing, "you can imagine the panic any knowledge of this world would bring to your religious community."
I nodded but did not respond. I fully understood the disaster that even rumors of the world we had visited would bring. "What do we tell the others about Chang?"
"You will be telling them the truth as Chang will be permanently returning to your world." Surprising all, Neon said. "Only all of your memories of this world, minus your mission, shall be erased from your minds."
"I thought I could not go back." Confused, Chang said.
"To even send two here through astral projection, a rip must be opened." Serious, Neon explained. "A solid form must be sent through to seal the rift." A slight grin touched the corners of his mouth. "As you had volunteered for this mission, you will be the one to make the sacrifice."
Before another word could be said, there was a flash and I found myself lying on a bed looking up at the ceiling. I heard gasps all around me and propped myself up on one arm to look around. All of my friends were in the room, looking in my direction with shock on their faces. Huanle, Chon's sister whom he had discovered and found only days before was holding a hand to her mouth, tears flowing from her eyes. "How..."
Before she could stop herself, she ran to Chang, leaving a trail of tears behind her and literally jumped into his arms, sobbing. Chon was quick to join in the embrace, a family reunited at long last.
John, the Light Killer threw me an impressed look before giving me a thumbs up. Amy was stunned to silence but she was soon frantically drawing in her notebook as if she feared she would lose the moment. All the others were stunned to silence but Jenny walked up to me with a stern look on her face. "Okay, I want to know everything!"
