She's 14, not too tall or too short, and has dark brown eyes with hair to match, styled back in an open ponytail, curly locks falling to her shoulders. She's also got a German dad and an Egyptian mom, which explains the nose. As if the prominent nose isn't bad enough, she's still got braces. Those sore points aside, her slender frame and Mediterranean features give her an exotic look, and she's finally starting to get curvy (though she's ambivalent about that at present).
Vanessa would like to be popular but, in unguarded moments, has a tendency toward enthusiasm that's just 'not cool' at her age. Additionally, she spends a socially chilling amount of time daydreaming about her alter ego, Nebraska McMillions, lead guitar and vocals for the one-girl band, "Rat-Drawn Shooz". It doesn't matter that Vanessa herself can't sing or play guitar: Nebraska's constantly jetsetting about to the strangest places, garnering new admirers with her dreamy postpunk brimstone ballads, trading crass fame and fortune for acquaintance with outsider sects and induction into esoteric Mysteries.
When properly approached, Vanessa can engage in wide-eyed chatter about any number of offbeat topics, but is normally quiet until finding her comfort level with strangers. Although she's not musically inclined anywhere but in her imagination, she does try to write lyrics Nebraska would approve of. Additionally, she's becoming a competent pool player since her dad bought a table and put it in the garage.
