You stare down at the golden bowl in your hands. There really is something... unnatural about it. There's not much light up here in the attic, yet the water in the bowl shines almost as though it were in direct sunlight. Could it really be magical?
There's only one way to find out. You abruptly raise the bowl to your mouth and start gulping down water...
And then suddenly, you're standing in Stacy's room with your arms back down at your sides even though you didn't move them. Not only are your hands now empty, they feel... off. So do your arms. Actually, everything feels off. You look down... and see your sister's familiar appearance from an entirely unfamiliar perspective.
"Holy crap," you mutter in a familiar yet utterly strange voice. "It worked. It actually worked."
You can hardly believe this. You've become Stacy! More to the point, you've become a girl! Heck, even besides that, just the fact that you're someone else is incredible. Every single detail of your body feels fascinatingly different, from the slim shape of your fingers to the modest lumps on your chest. You feel like you could just stand totally still for the rest of the day, taking in all the differences, big and small.
Of course, you don't get to indulge that feeling for long before the door bursts open behind you. You spin around to see none other than yourself... or, presumably, Stacy in your body.
"John?!" she almost screams. At the sight of the hysterical expression on your own face, your sensory overload gives way to smug amusement.
"No, it looks to me like you're John," you snicker, making an attempt at feminine posture.
"No! No, you're John! I'm Stacy!" she says, not quite sounding entirely sure of herself. Seeing your body acting like a scared girl, while vaguely embarrassing, drives you to full-on laughter.
"Dammit, John, this isn't funny!" Stacy says. "Switch us back!"
"Really?" you ask after regaining your composure. "And then what? Just forget that something so amazing ever happened? You can't really want to just throw this away! Why don't we try being each other for a while?"
"You're crazy!"
"Crazy? That's what people kept telling me when I said magic was possible, and look how that turned out."
