You had been working out a lot these past few days so you could join the Gruul Clans. You were sick of being treated like an outcast and a simpleton all your life, so you wanted to join a guild full of outcasts and simpletons. You knew it would not be easy, though. To join the Gruul, you had to survive a fierce melee against all the other prospective members. Anyone who survived got to join.
You had been lifting heavy bags of flour to work out and eating protein shakes at the milk bar to bulk up for the fights. You also took to practicing your fighting skills with drunks and beggars at night who might be looking for a quick scrap. For an average Ravnican citizen, you were fairly brawny and tough.
Soon, initiation night came. You made your way to the wrecked castle the local Gruul called home. There gathered a motley assortment of humans, centaurs, beasts, ad all sorts of tough, angry creatures. The prospective initiates were all pushed into a ring lit by numerous torches as the established members looked on. You threw off your shirt. You knew the battle would begin soon.
A feral looking minotaur stepped in front of the crowd. He was the local clan's warchief because he was the biggest, toughest Gruul in the area.
"You all want be Gruul?" The minotaur smiled.
You and the others hooted enthusiastically.
"Yeah, this group got fighting spirit! You all fight. If you live, you are now Gruul! Fight!" The minotaur commanded. He got the fight started by sucker punching a rowdy centaur and then hanging back to watch the carnage unfold.
You, despite your newfound strength, were at a size disadvantage. You were just a mostly normal citizen, and here you had to deal with rampaging horse-men and even a couple of ogres. You would have to rely on your cunning and instincts, two essential qualities of a Gruul warrior, if you were to survive the onslaught.
A massive horned centaur charged straight toward you. With a daring leap, you vaulted onto the horse-man's back and grabbed him by the neck. The centaur bucked and thrashed like a texas bronco, but you held tight.
"Get off, whelp!" The centaur yelled. He reared up on his hind legs and smashed you against a wall. Stunned, you fell to the ground. The centaur came charging for you again.
