You grin as you head off the main road and talk a back street through a shady part of town. Rats scurried away as you moved silently through the narrow alley shadows past various grates and gutters filled with muck and slime. As you came back out to an adjacent road leading towards a large gate you reached into your robes and put on a mask to disguise yourself. The last thing you needed was someone from the guild to recognize you and report you for slacking on the job.
As you pass through the gate you notice several swaying banners bearing the logo of the Simic, a guild specializing in blue and green magic. They were "allied" with you at the moment, but that hardly mattered in a city like this where it was everyone for themselves. Just because the Simic probably wouldn't attack you on sight didn't make you friends, especially since they had radically different views on magic and several other matters.
You pushed the thoughts of the ongoing war out of your mind as you came upon a slum area filled with goblins, ogres, stray creatures and several other types of vermin... your kind of place, really. You passed a vagrant chewing on a dead rat and walked up to a short building nestled snugly between two large housing complexes. This was the place.
You knocked twice on the door and waited patiently for someone to walk up to the barred window. "Password." came a deep voice from the other side. "Payday." you whisper back as you lean on the door. The person on the other side grunts and unlocks a hatch to allow you inside. "Welcome." the large ogre says as he pulls the door open and ushers you inside. The interior of the large room was hazy in the dim candlelight, but the place had anything you could ask for in a good gambling den. What do you want to do first?
