Thinking over the lost potential that Michael squandered, you visit him in his tiny apartment. It's messy, the remnants of plans and ideas, that he failed to carry out. His clear abilities wasted by his apathy. Once he finds a solution, he's bored by it, and abandons it.
Nothing holds his interest. He keeps a dull retail job on the go, as it requires zero attention from him, and pays enough for his weed habit, and the stationery he uses to scribble out his next guaranteed to be pissed away idea.
If he wants the easy life, you can show him another. It requires even less effort, or rather a different sort. Sitting in the car, outside the apartment, another sad conversation about life being brief and precious only confirming what she already knew.
Michael needed a shock to break him from the routine, he'd chosen.
Teresa thought of her ideal low effort life-style. Wondering how Michael would adjust to it. In her youth, she'd had a host of men courting her attention. One a CEO, of a largish company. A dull individual, with little interest in her beyond her beauty, and the envy he'd inspire hanging from his arm. Instead, she'd married for love. Not a decision she regretted, exactly, but it wasn't the fantasy she'd imagined.

She'd already crafted Michael's trophy wife form. It was based on his browsing history, and unfortunate, accidental discovery. When she'd activated his computer while cleaning it.
Now, Michelle was going to get to experience her fantasy. She'd allow Michael to surface briefly, to recognise her new fate... and that Teresa was the person she'd need to meet to end that particular lifestyle.
