The distinctive sound of a plasma pistol firing a three-round burst stood out amongst the much louder firing of the rifles. But the shots were too slow in reaching their mark, as the grenade found its mark, shrapnel embedding itself into Lawrence's body. Through blurred, bloody vision, he saw bullets deflecting off the power armor-clad figure, and angering his much larger companion. Within the period of only a few seconds, seconds which felt like an eternity through the pain, the fire-fight was over. The stranger turned his attention to Lawrence, drew out a Stimpak, and injected Lawrence with its contents. He was up within seconds, and noticed the odd-looking plasma pistol in the stranger's holster. Then turned his attention to the hulking, green figure not ten feet away.
