This choice: You wake up in the middle of the night • Go Back...Chapter #6Revelations by: Unknown You were woken just after midnight by the sound of Mai talking in her sleep.
“Someone... anyone... please help me...”
You looked at Mai and noticed that she was crying, tears streaming down her face. “Mai?” you asked softly.
“Let me out, please...” Mai spoke.
You shook Mai lightly by her shoulders, which woke her up with a start, also surprising you by how much of a light sleeper she seemed to be.
“(name)” she asked.
“Are you okay? You were talking in your sleep, and you look like you've been crying.”
“O-of course! Everything's fine!” she insisted, before exhaling deeply.
“I can tell that you're not fine, Mai. No one cries in their sleep from a regular dream. You were having a nightmare, and you sounded really terrified. If anything's on your mind, Mai, you can tell me. If it's a secret, I'll take it to my grave, and if I can help in any way, I'll try my utmost to do so.” you said, meaning every word.
Mai just stared at you silently, the pale moonlight breaking through the curtains. She then leaned in and gently kissed you on the lips before pulling away once more. You could taste the tears on her skin.
“You're not like anyone else I've ever met, (name). You're so wise for your age. It's one of the reasons why I feel like I can really open up to you, like you did to me.”
“Mai...” you muttered.
“I've been having these reoccurring nightmares for a while now.” Mai began. “At Battle City, I lost my finals match to Marik Ishtar, a man who was at the time in possession of The Winged Dragon of Ra, one the most powerful cards in all of Duel Monsters. When I dueled him, it wasn't like when I dueled you. He was one of the most psychotic people I have ever met in my life. He managed to somehow trap me within my own mind and fill me with so much self-doubt that I thought I would die. I keep dreaming that he's here, (name). That he's here and he traps me.”
Tears began to well up in Mai's eyes once more. It was obvious that this was a very emotional topic for her to talk about. For the first time, you saw a side of Mai that you had never seen before. A side of vulnerability. You quickly hugged her. “I'm sorry, really. I'm not sure how I can help you.” you said, honestly. “But if there is anything you need of me, just ask.”
“There is one thing...” Mai muttered, sniffing over and over again due to her crying. Mai then leaned close to you. “Stay by my side... please...” she whispered.
“Of course.” you said without a second thought.
Mai smiled and grabbed a tissue from her bedside table, wiping away the tears. “Thank you, (name). You don't know how much it means to me to have someone like you by my side.”
You blushed profusely. “I'm flattered that you trust me so much.”
Mai then gently caressed your cheek. “I'm sorry for waking you. We should try getting back to sleep...”
You nodded, shifting yourself around in the bed. The morning would mark the turning of a new leaf. No matter what, you would help Mai overcome the darkness that had gripped her soul. | Members who added to this interactive story also contributed to these: - Diapers, Humiliation, Exposure: Galore!
