It was 1869, and the boshin war was on the Tokugawa side as the imperial army was pushed back, out of Ezo republic. President Enomoto Takeaki took the area that is now Aomori, making the territory to themselves. The emperor tried to dissolve the republic with the help of the other countries, but with futile effort.
After the war, president Takeaki took the prestigious school of ootomi to Sapporo to protect the school from the emperor and the imperial rule. The republic of Ezo survived many wars and it claimed the Kuril Islands. The samurai democracy continued to strive as the rest of Japan looked at the Ezo republic with anxiety.
