William decides against collecting any of those items. Sure, there might be something there to help him on his journey. But he didn't want to run the risk of becoming a syrup-filled fox-balloon.
But as he tried to sneak away, William tripped over an exposed tree branch and felt to the forest floor with a loud thud. This got the attention of the syrup vines and they rushed over to where the noise came from. William quickly got to his feet and ran. Although the vines were fairly quick, he was just a bit faster and managed to get a good distance from them. But he knew that he couldn't just keep running from the vines and needed to hide. He quickly surveyed his surroundings. To his left was a large boulder, easily big enough for him to hide behind. To his right was a pathway leading to a cave inside of a hill. And further off in front of him was a large tree that he was certain he could climb up high on.
