William found James several blocks away from the town square. He was sat on a bench; it dipped visibly under the roo's weight. The fox approached James and pointed out the only spare space on the bench . "Hey, is that spot taken?"
The roo glanced at William, then at the space he was pointing to, and shrugged his shoulders. The fox sat down on the bench and swore he heard it creak slightly.
"I saw you at the eating competition. Congrats on getting second place." said William.
"Second place is first loser." replied James, starring down into his lap. "I don't think I'll ever beat Matthew."
"Oh, don't say that. I'm sure that with enough practice that you'll eventually win." William said to reassure James.
"Yeah, that's what they keep saying. And each year I practice I go home with the silver and end up like...this." James gestured to his incredibly flabby lower half.
"That's not a bad second place prized." replied William. James chuckled at his joke.
"I'm James," the roo said, sticking out his paw. "I'm a second-rate eating competitor."
William took his paw. "William. Second-rate adventurer."
James' head cocked at William's response. "An adventurer? Really?"
"Well, I'm trying to be one."
"I might have a quest for you..." started James. "I'm looking for someone to..."
